Asa is entering his fifth year as a care team member for Dr. Plymale. He serves as an athletic trainer assisting in clinic and in the local high schools. He is also a certified Orthopaedic Technologist and physician extender and assist Dr. Plymale in both the clinic and during surgery.
The Dallas, GA native is a graduate of Samford University, where he received his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Exercise Science while running track. He then continued his studies at Auburn University Masters' Degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Biomechanics. While at Auburn he worked closely with Dr. Plymale, who was an assistant team physician, as graduate assistant and athletic trainer for the athletic department.
In 2009 Ackerson completed a summer internship with the New Orleans Saints. He has also gained certifications as an orthopedic technologist (OTC) as well as an orthopedic technician surgery certified (OT-SC). More recently he has completed an athletic training residency through USC-Palmetto Health orthopedic clinic.
Asa is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association, and the South Carolina Athletic Trainers' Association.
