Mickey F. Plymale, MD, received his medical degree from Marshall University School of Medicine in Huntington, West Virginia. He completed his internship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and his residency with Montefiore Medical Center, both in New York City. Dr. Plymale completed fellowships at the Dr. James Andrews Sports Medicine &Orthopaedic Center and the American Sports Medicine Institute, both in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dr. Plymale is a member of many professional associations including The American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, The Arthroscopy Association of North America, The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and The American Sports Medicine Fellowship Society. His team physician history includes Auburn University athletics; Barons AA baseball, an affiliate of Chicago White Sox; the Alabama Ballet Company; the University of Alabama ice hockey team; the SEC baseball tournament; Vestavia Hills High School, 6A, of Birmingham, AL; and Truman High School in New York City.

He currently serves as medical co-director for the South Carolina State Bulldogs athletic department, is a team physician for the NY Mets, Columbia Fireflies baseball team and is a team physician for more than 20 Columbia area high schools. Dr. Plymale currently works at Palmetto-Health USC Orthopaedic Center with several other highly skilled fellowship trained Orthopaedic surgeons.

Dr. Plymale's specialties and clinical interests include upper extremity, hip and knee surgery, arthroscopic ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, shoulder stabilization procedures, patella instability, joint preservation including cartilage replacement/transplant and partial/total knee replacement.
